Google’s New Search Feature Connecting Job Seekers With employers

Google has announced “Google for Jobs” this year at Google I/O which is a brand new company-wide endeavor aimed at aiding both job seekers as well as employers through joint-effort with the job matching industry. One of the important aspects of this initiative is to provide job aspirants better exposure through Google Search Engine.

This new experience is open now for all developers and site owners. A job listings preview would be shown for queries with clear cut intent such as ‘head of catering jobs in nyc’ or ‘entry level jobs in DC’. Each job can be expanded for showing all-inclusive details regarding the listing.

This feature brings a host of benefits and adds a new dimension for employers and site owners with job content.

  • Prominent place in Search Results: The job postings can be displayed in the new job search feature on Google encompassing logo, reviews, ratings, and details of the job.
  • More, motivated applicants: Job filtering feature is present by different criteria which means it becomes easier to sort out applicants and candidates looking for the specific or exact job.
  • Increased chances of discovery and conversion: There would be a new vista open for job seekers to interact with employer's postings and click through to their site.

The job listings are available on Google whose implementation has got two steps:

  1. The job listings are to be marked up with Job Posting structured data.
  2. A sitemap (or an RSS or Atom feed) is to be submitted with a <lastmod> date for each listing.

If there are more than 100,000 job postings or more than 10,000 changes each day, one can make use of the High Change Rate feature.

If job openings are published already on other sites like LinkedIn, DirectEmployers, Monster, Glassdoor CareerBuilder and Facebook, they can still appear in the feature.

Making job search an embellished search experience Google has created a dedicated guide to help comprehend how Google ranking functions for enhanced search and practices for boosting the online presence.

Keeping track of doing and fixing issues

There are a handful of tools to facilitate the implementation:

  • Mark up can be validated with the Structure Data Testing Tool
  • Listing can be previewed in the Structured Data Testing Tool
  • In Search Console sitemap's status can be tracked.
  • In Search Console aggregate stats and markup error examples can be viewed.

Google would be adding new job listing filters in the weeks to follow in the Search Analytics report in Search Console so that one can track clicks and impressions for his/her listings.

reCAPTCHA Now In Android Devices For Enhancing Internet Safety

It was a decade ago that the reCaptcha was launched and introduced by Google with the aim of enabling users to visit the sites they like and love without having to think or bother about spam and abuse. Evolving from distorted text to street numbers and names to No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA in 2014 and very recently the Invisible reCAPTCHA in March earlier this year reCaptcha has come a long way since then over all these years.

Millions of users have benefitted from reCaptcha till now as Google looks forward to further enhance and refine its protections. reCAPTCHA protects users across all online platforms.

recaptcha1

With mobile devices growing at a fast pace, it is of utmost significance to keep the data and mobile applications safe. Keeping this factor in mind, on the event of the 10th birthday of reCAPTCHA, Google has announced the first ever reCAPTCHA Android API as part of Google Play Services. According to Google, this API reCAPTCHA can provide a better streamlined user experience on mobile. Google’s latest Invisible reCAPTCHA technology would be used which would run risk analysis in the background allowing millions of users to pass through with zero click every day. This would enable mobile users to enjoy uninterrupted and hassle-free apps experience and at the same time stay protected from spam and abuse.

recaptcha2

It is with Google Safety Net that the reCAPTCHA Android API is incorporated and it provides services such as device attestation and safe browsing for protecting mobile apps. The security risks of the apps can be mitigated more efficiently if both the device and user attestations are done by the mobile developers in the same API.

This gives a diversity of security protections on Android devices like the Google Play Protect which would aid in monitoring potentially harmful applications, device encryption and regular security updates.

The journey of reCAPTCHA goes on as Google vows to make the Internet safer and convenient to use for one and all other than bots of course.

Google-Jamboard

Google Jamboard - The Integration of the Whiteboard and The Cloud

Google Jamboard is finally unveiled for sale after it was announced last October (2016) that it would reach the market pretty soon. Although, there has been a bit delay in its scheduled entry into the market nonetheless the much-awaited Jamboard from the search engine giant Google has finally and eventually hit the market big time in May’ 2017. It is being viewed as a direct response to the Microsoft Surface Hub. The Google Jamboard is a part of the G Suite family. It is an interactive cloud-based digital whiteboard from the house of Google. It comes at a price of $4,999 with a yearly support fee of $600.

With a 55’’ 4K touchscreen display, 120 Hz touch scan rate and 60Hz refresh rate, Google Jamboard is endowed with online collaboration and having cross-platform support enabled.  There is the option of both mounting the display onto a wall and configuring it into a stand as well by default.

Google-Jamboard

Google Jamboard has the prudence of identifying and thereby detecting up to 16 touch points anywhere within. It has also got Wi-Fi connectivity, an HD front-facing camera, built-in speakers and microphone.

A dedicated stylus is present to control the touchscreen and for controlling the device as a whole. There is also an eraser to give the entity a complete shape in terms of use and functionality.

The Jamboard has an OS (Android 6.0 Marshmallow) coinciding with the G Suite ecosystem. Any G Suite compatible service can be performed on any connected device. The main functionality of the Google Jamboard is to facilitate users to join and work together on projects inside the available space. The access to Google Jamboard gives business meetings, corporate discussions and presentations a whole new dimension as not only multiple jamboards can be used in the same room but people can connect remotely also through Jamboard app on a phone or a tablet.

The best part of using Google Jamboard is that it feels exactly akin to writing on a traditional whiteboard with a highly responsive, pressure-sensitive and accurate display. Jamboard indeed is the centre of interest and activity in a creative workplace. Moreover, it is rather easy to move it around from one place to another with its portable stand and single-cable setup. Furthermore, to add to it, there is nothing to be wary of regarding running out of batteries or ink for there is a passive stylus which does not require any pairing but is a “plug-and play” design. Its working methodology is exactly like that of a whiteboard and hence in spite of drawing with a stylus, it can be easily removed with finger.

The Google Jamboard comes with a shape and handwriting recognition feature. The users of Google G Suite can log into a Jam Session (as Google terms it) via the Jamboard itself or on companion iOS and Android apps. However, no Microsoft companion app for Jamboard is there. Anyone having a G Suite account can go on and begin a Jam Session by clicking on the screen. The ones who are initiating the session can invite anyone to join the session. With Google Hangout, users with Jamboard companion apps can make edits or participate in the Jam by using their smartphones or tablets. Remote users with access to the app can add stuff to the Jamboard and it really takes a very short time to do so. Users who do not possess the Jamboard application too can be a part of the entire set-up but their participation in this context would only be limited to view-only mode i.e. passive as they won’t be having the permission to access the jamboard like other active users of the Jam who have got the jamboard application at their disposal.

The Google Jamboard is primarily and solely designed to expedite business collaboration. The two fields of operation where the Google Jamboard would find enormous application and the two fields which would benefit unprecedentedly from Google Jamboard are obviously business enterprises and the education sector.

With Google adding G Suite support to Jamboard, users can access and edit Docs, Sheets, Slides, Photos, etc. directly and with ease. With the Google Jamboard there is the provision of working with teammates and peers from across the world with Google Hangout and Google Cast in order to set up broadcasts and collaborations or work remotely by making use of the companion app to good effect.

In a word, with the Google Jamboard the orthodox whiteboard moves into the zone of cloud erasing boundaries and sharing ideas in a real-time scenario. For better and enhanced connections, the Jamboard has got its own phone and tablet app. The Jamboard is quite reflective. And the entire structure is pretty thick. The styluses that comes with it provides an aesthetic and serene feel. The Google Jamboard undoubtedly presents with a polished and well-thought-out software experience. The entire thing is controlled and managed by a panel which is stationed either on the left or right. The jamboard also at once can act as a video conferencing machine. The structure of the Google Jamboard is quite big indeed and is rectangular square in shape with a rounded plastic back. A small horizontal line is centred at the bottom as power indicator. Collaborative brainstorming done via whiteboard scribbling is essentially the fundamental function of Google Jamboard. The Google Jamboard is available in three different colours- blue, red and gray. The Google Jamboard offers some great flexibility. Everything gets saved to Google Drive as Jamboard doesn’t have any internal memory of its own. It has also got the unique ability to straighten the shapes, symbols, lines, etc. so as to make sure that everything looks neat, clean and tidy. Everything is under complete command with the Google Jamboard in hand. The Jamboard besides converting handwriting into type also can give drawings digital shapes on its own. For PC and MAC users to get into the thick of things, they need to sign in through Chrome.

The Google Jamboard is a mind-boggling innovation from Google and there is no denying the fact that it would have a far-reaching effect and a long-lasting impact especially and precisely on the educational sector and businesses.

Rich Cards Enriched with Local Restaurants and Online Courses Verticals

In May 2016 Google announced a new search result format “Rich Cards”  for 2 categories,  i.e  Recipes and Movies. The Rich Cards used schema.org structured mark up, just like the Rich Snippets format. Yesterday, Google announced  that they are expanding it to two new verticals for US-based sites: Local restaurants and Online courses.

card2card1

Google has added: By building Rich Cards, you have a new opportunity to attract more engaged users to your page. Users can swipe through restaurant recommendations from sites like TripAdvisor, Thrillist, Time Out, Eater, and 10Best. In addition to food, users can browse through courses from sites like Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, EdX, Harvard, Udacity, FutureLearn, Edureka, Open University, Udemy, Canvas Network, and NPTEL. AMP HTML is not required for Local restaurant pages and Online Courses rich cards. But, Google recommends that you create AMP pages to further engage users. Users consuming AMP’d content will be able to swipe near instantly from restaurant to restaurant or from recipe to recipe within your site. Users who tap on your Rich Card will be taken near instantly to your AMP page, and be able to swipe between pages within your site. Google is soon moving to add Rich Cards to other  verticals too .

Google To Remove Mobile-Friendly Labels and Keep Check On Interstitials For A Better Mobile Search Experience

Google recently announced on their blog that they will soon remove the “Mobile-Friendly” labels from search results.

Google said that they have found that 85% of all pages in the mobile search results now meet this criteria and show the mobile-friendly label.

This does not mean that mobile-friendly criteria is not a ranking signal. It will continue to be a ranking signal but the label will be removed from search results to keep the search results uncluttered. Google will continue providing the mobile usability report in Search Console and the mobile-friendly test to help webmasters evaluate the effect of the mobile-friendly signal on their pages.

Google also added:

“To improve the mobile search experience, after January 10, 2017, pages where content is not easily accessible to a user on the transition from the mobile search results may not rank as highly.”

Pages that show intrusive interstitials provide a poorer experience to users than other pages where content is immediately accessible. This can be problematic on mobile devices where screens are often smaller.

Here are some examples of techniques that make content less accessible to a user:

  • Showing a popup that covers the main content, either immediately after the user navigates to a page from the search results, or while they are looking through the page.
  • Displaying a standalone interstitial that the user has to dismiss before accessing the main content.
  • Using a layout where the above-the-fold portion of the page appears similar to a standalone interstitial, but the original content has been inlined underneath the fold.

Examples of interstitials that make content less accessible

By contrast, here are some examples of techniques that, used responsibly, would not be affected by the new signal:

  • Interstitials that appear to be in response to a legal obligation, such as for cookie usage or for age verification.
  • Login dialogs on sites where content is not publicly indexable. For example, this would include private content such as email or unindexable content that is behind a paywall.
  • Banners that use a reasonable amount of screen space and are easily dismissible. For example, the app install banners provided by Safari and Chrome are examples of banners that use a reasonable amount of screen space.

Binny Bansal, co-founder of Flipkart said: “Fashion and lifestyle is one of the biggest drivers of e-commerce growth in India. We have always believed in the fashion and lifestyle segment and Myntra’s strong performance has reinforced this faith. This acquisition is a continuation of the group’s journey to transform commerce in India. I am happy that we will now be able to offer to millions of customers a wide variety of styles, products and a broad assortment of global as well as Indian brands,” he added. For now Myntra has said it will keep Jabong as a separate entity. This deal strengthens the Bengaluru-based  company's prospects of competing with Amazon a in this high-margin business. Welcoming Jabong to the group, Flipkart CEO Binny Bansal sent a letter to all its employees. Here's the text of the letter sent by Bansal:  Hi,  I am happy to inform you that our group company, Myntra, today acquired Jabong from Global Fashion Group, thus creating India's biggest fashion shopping destination. The acquisition of Jabong further strengthens Flipkart Group's position as the undisputed leader in Fashion and Lifestyle segment in India.  As you are aware, Jabong is among India's major fashion multi-brand e-store with more than 1500 on-trend international high-street brands, sports labels, Indian ethnic and designer labels and over 150,000 styles from over a thousand sellers. IT Sector To Lose 1.4 Million Jobs To Automation By 2021. Are You Upgrading Your Skills To Retain Your Job?

According to an HFS Research, it is said that By 2021,  the IT industry worldwide would see a net decrease of 9% in headcount, or about 1.4 million jobs, with countries like the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States also taking hits.

IT industry body The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) said that the report may not have taken into account all the jobs being created by newer technologies.

But all is not disheartening, the HFS report states that though "low-skilled" jobs will fall by 30%, "medium-skilled" jobs will increase by 8% and high-skilled jobs will rise by 56%.
impact of Automation 2021

If low-skilled jobs will be adversely impacted the high-skilled jobs will show a promising rise. Low-skilled jobs are jobs which are repetitive in nature and do not require any special expertise and qualification. Such jobs can be easily automated.

"The BPO industry is going to be facing the problem of robotic process automation in the next two years. This is a challenge the industry and the country will face," Asheesh Mehra, CEO of BPO firm Antworks, said.

On the other hand, high-skilled jobs require creative problem solving, analytics and critical thinking. Implementing automation for such jobs is challenging and the industry is not ready for it yet.

Another report highlights another major issue—the huge gap between new IT jobs created and the number of engineers completing their graduation. Approximately more than 15 lakh new engineers enter the job market every year, but the jobs available for them  has shrunk to 2-2.5 lakh. This results in a severe competition among freshers and experienced engineers.

Areas which will see high demand and lucrative salaries  are:

  • big data,
  • analytics,
  • machine learning,
  • mobility,
  • design,
  • Internet of Things (IoT) and
  • artificial intelligence.

Due to big data, the demand for data scientists is on the rise.

Data scientists are not only relevant to IT but sectors like the manufacturing, R&D, banking and financial sectors and the expanding e-commerce companies also need their services.

Big data analysts need to have knowledge of:

  • computer science,
  • analytics and statistics skills,
  • strong communication skills and
  • a working knowledge of business intelligence tools. As Internet speeds increase, the need for maintaining and managing internet infrastructure is also going to grow.

Experienced people with the following profiles will be in demand:

  • digital marketing expert,
  • marketing technologist and
  • solution architects, who have both business and technical know-how and areable to align the two.

The areas where jobs will show an increase in the future are:

  • mobile application development
  • cloud computing
  • IT infrastructure risk analysis
  • Online security
  • Developers with experience in user-interface (UI) and
  • user-experience (UX)
  • Data visualization experts with the skills to present data with simplicity
  • healthcare
  • transportation
  • real estate
  • Operations & Logistics of eCommerce Startups

According to one more blog post by Phil Fersht,  The jobs aren't "going away" - they've already pretty much gone .

Hence, if this trend and data proves to be true, only innovation and adapting to the new technologies is going to make the companies survive.

Test Mobile-Friendliness And Page Speed With Google’s New Tool

Last week Google introduced an easy way to measure your site’s performance across devices. This tool https://testmysite.thinkwithgoogle.com/ gives a list of fixes to be made on the site to improve the performance of the site.

The visits from mobile devices are increasing over time and many online customers are lost if the website loads slowly.

google-test-tool

Google says:

You don’t need a lot of technical knowledge to understand your site’s performance. Just type in your web address and within moments you’ll see how your site scores. You can also get a detailed report to give you an idea of what to do next, and where to go for help at no charge. We recommend sharing it with your webmaster to help you plan your next steps and implement our suggested fixes.

This what the scores say:

  • Mobile-friendliness: This is the quality of the experience customers have when they’re browsing your site on their phones. To be mobile-friendly, your site should have tappable buttons, be easy to navigate from a small screen and have the most important information up front and center.
  • Mobile speed: This is how long it takes your site to load on mobile devices. If customers are kept waiting for too long, they’ll move on to the next site.
  • Desktop speed: This is how long it takes your site to load on desktop computers. It’s not just the strength of your customers’ web connection that determines speed, but also the elements of your website.

Search sessions at Google I/O 2016 were also focused on mobile and With Google working towards improving the mobile experience in so many ways, it is needless to say that ‘Mobile Search’, needs to be the current focus for all search marketers and website .

Search  At Google  I/O 2016 Dominated By Updates On Mobile Search,App Indexing  And Structured Data

Google today  published a recap of 8 things about the Search happenings which were discussed at Google I/O 16 and they are:

1: Introducing 'Rich Cards'

Google announced “Rich Cards” which is a new search result format which uses schema.org structured mark up, just like the Rich Snippets format.

The focus is to provide a more rewarding experience to the mobile user.

Currently this is on an experimental stage and available only for Movies and Recipes but Google seems to be having promising future plans in taking this ahead for other content categories too.

http://www.webpro.in/google-announces-rich-cards-for-recipes-and-movies-for-mobile-serps-an-upgrade-on-rich-snippets/

2: New Search Console Reports

Google launched a new report in Search Console to help developers confirm that their rich card markup is valid. In the report Google highlights,“enhanceable cards,” which are cards that can benefit from marking up more fields. The new Search Appearance filter also makes it easy for webmasters to filter their traffic by AMP and rich cards.

Search Filter

3: Real-time Indexing

Google has always given importance to the freshness index for content. Instead of waiting for content to be crawled and indexed, publishers will be able to use the Google Indexing API to trigger the indexing of their content in real time. It’s still in its early days, but Google plans to launch a pilot later this summer.

3: Getting up to speed with Accelerated Mobile Pages

AMP or Accelerated Mobile Pages is an open source initiative by Google launched in October 2015.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) are lightweight pages designed to load quickly on mobile devices. AMP-compliant pages use a subset of HTML with a few extensions.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), is a very accessible framework for creating fast-loading mobile web pages.

The AMP project aims at improving the performance of the mobile web. Further, the intent is that the webpages with rich content like video, animations and graphics should work alongside smart ads, and  load instantaneously.

I/O 16 attendees could talk directly with Googlers at the Search & AMP sandbox.

 Search And AMP

5: A new and improved Structured Data Testing Tool

The new Structured Data Testing tool is tightly integrated with the DevSite Search Gallery and the new Search Preview service, which lets you preview how your rich cards will look on the search results page.

structured-data-testing-tool

6: App Indexing got a new home (and new features)

Google announced App Indexing’s migration to Firebase, Google’s unified developer platform. Watch the session to learn how to grow your app with Firebase App Indexing.

7: App streaming

App streaming is a new way for Android users to try out games without having to download and install the app -- and it’s already available in Google Search. Check out the session to learn more.

  1. Revamped documentation

Google has revamped the developer documentation, organizing the  docs around topical guides to make it easier to follow.

With Google working towards improving the mobile experience in so many ways, it is needless to say that 'Mobile Search' needs to be the current focus for all search marketers .

Satya Nadella , Microsoft CEO Impressed By An 8 Year old Indian app Developer

The Microsoft CEO, recently was on his third visit to India since he took over as Microsoft CEO in February 2014. He emphasized on  how Microsoft can help the country in its ‘Digital India’ initiative and build technology around augmented reality and virtual reality.

He recited a couplet written by the poet Mirza Ghalib to express his feeling and passion for the two main passions of his  life –

“Hazaaron khwahishen aisi ke har khwahish pe dam nikle, Bahut niklay mere armaan, lekin phir bhi kam nikle”

Satya Nadella

The couplet translates as,

“Thousands of aspirations such, that each aspiration takes your breath away… I had many dreams, but they still weren’t enough.”

Further he said,

“Creativity in India can make poetry as well as technology for the world,”

“I learn something new… there are so many layers there… My interpretation of that is… it’s not just your dreams being fulfilled, it is your ability to dream that is worth dying for. It is a source of inspiration,”

On his recent visit to India, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met the Indian Prime Minister, entrepreneurs and various government officials. But, it was an eight-year-old Mumbai-based student, Medansh Mehta, a gaming app developer who impressed him with his vision of balancing technology and environmental sustainability.

He presented his app "Let There Be Light" during a meeting between Nadella and student developers from India. The boy left Nadella so impressed that the Microsoft CEO later mentioned him in a keynote speech.

“I MET AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD, AND THIS IS PERHAPS THE TIME WHERE I FELT THE MOST INADEQUATE. HIS DREAM IS TO CREATE A SOCIETY THAT KNOWS HOW TO BALANCE ECONOMIC GROWTH WITH ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY. THIS IS THE GOAL HE HAS AND THEN HE TRANSLATED THAT VISION, THAT GOAL, INTO A NOVEL GAME THAT HE’S BUILT.”

His game is called ‘Let there be light’ and it focuses on balancing the environment along with industrial development, which lets players build factories, farms and earn coins if the city becomes prosperous.

The kid has solid ambition. He wants to become the CEO of Microsoft and wants to build it into a technology company that can take over all the companies in the world.
